NIOD Instituut voor Oorlogs-, Holocaust- en Genocidestudies
The Netherlands Institute for War Documentation (NIOD) in Amsterdam manages the archives of the German occupation of the Netherlands and the Japanese occupation of Dutch Indonesia, along with photographs, newspapers, underground magazines, pamphlets and books. The institute was founded right after the war, on 8 May 1945, and functions as the centre for knowledge and study of the Netherlands and Dutch Indonesia during World War II.
The NIOD has the following tasks:
- Collecting, maintaining, and making accessible the archives about World War II.
- Conducting scientific research and publishing work on this.
- Informing the media, government institutions and private individuals.
